About the Business Development Manager role:

As a key member of the supplies team, the primary aim of this role is to support the Branch Manager in achieving sales targets, operational & safe working environment compliance, and all aspects of commercial performance, in doing so, this position plays a vital role in achieving sales budgets and profit growth.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of our Business Development Manager:

  • Contribute to the delivery of the MBTS sales and margin targets whilst maintaining a value proposition for the customer.
  • Provide proactive leadership to direct reports, communicating effectively, identifying training needs, managing performance, and ensuring best utilisation and engagement of the team.
  • Use the information systems provided to drive the branch sales effort in collaboration with the branch manager central sales and rep and lead the initiatives to address areas of improvement.
  • Maintain direct relationships with key MBTS branch accounts; liaise proactively with customers on a day-to-day basis to fulfil their requirements.
  • Implement plans to (a) identify opportunities to win new branch customers, (b) convert branch customers to new accounts, (c) develop relationships with account customers who have the potential to become MBTS key accounts and (d) reverse declining spend.
  • Identify opportunities and implement plans to grow category participation, supported by the marketing, buying and stock control teams.
  • Ensure customers receive the correct levels of engagement and service and thereby sustain customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Seek opportunities to develop new customers through appropriate propositions and ethical sales methods.
  • Oversee operational activities as agreed with the branch manager (taking full responsibility in their absence) including:
  • Monitoring cash and payment systems; banking
  • Shop merchandising, layout, and customer traffic flow
  • Stock management
  • Transport and logistics
  • Management of staff
  • Contribute to a proactive culture of H&S, ensuring everyone in the team complies with the Company HSE policies and procedures.
  • Recruitment of branch staff
  • Establish SPAs for branch customers and ensure they are regularly reviewed & updated.
  • Attend meetings and group discussions where required.
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be required by the Company from time to time, as instructed by or under the direction of your line manager.
