Business Support Officer

Newcastle City Council are looking to recruit a number of full-time Business Support Officers for 2 areas within Business Support – Area 1 – Supporting Public Safety and Regulation, Taxi Licensing and based at Wincomblee Road, Walker – office hours – 8am – 4pm Monday – Friday.

These roles involve working in a reactive, fast paced environment between a busy front-line reception and back office.

You will process licensing applications and related tasks accurately to tight deadlines using a number of in-house and external systems/methods. Area 2 – Supporting Public Safety and Regulation and Building Control – The roles are based at the Civic Centre (with some possible homeworking once fully trained) – office hours 8:00 – 4:00 Monday – Friday.

These roles involve working in a busy, reactive cross-working environment supporting a number of sections across Public Safety and Regulation, such as Alcohol and Entertainment Licences, Legal support, Housing, support off site at a Business Centre, Food Safety and a number of other tasks and duties, including support to Building Control. Both of these roles require the ability to multi-task and deal with, and respond to, changing priorities within statutory deadlines.

Main Duties:

  1. To take part in identifying and embedding business process improvements.
  2. To deal with enquiries, including technical queries about the service in line with our procedures and protocols.
  3. To collate and prepare management information as needed.
  4. To work with nominated officers responsible for maintenance, repairs and security of designated buildings, giving administrative support as needed.
  5. To give confidential administrative and secretarial support including arranging and servicing meetings, preparing agendas and taking minutes as needed.
  6. To give interactive WP support to the allocated service using digital, audio or copy typing.
  7. To contribute to skills transfer activities by the demonstration of duties to support business continuity and to continually improve our service.
  8. To develop and maintain positive joint working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  9. To give a professional and courteous reception service as needed.
  10. To account for, reconcile and make sure of the security of petty cash, stock and cash equivalents in line with our Financial Regulations.
  11. To promote and implement our equal opportunities policies in all aspects of employment and service delivery.

The ideal candidate will have :

Previous experience in any office environment preferred Customer Service skills and experience Excellent organisational and communication skills (phone and face to face)

Microsoft Office knowledge Efficient computer skills, internet skills and keyboard skills Ability to multitask, problem solve and have great organisational skills.

Full training will be provided for the right applicant.
